The WESTbase Main website uses the standard html/PHP software to format and display the informational pages on this website.

The WESTbase Wiki uses the DokuWiki software to format and display the informational pages on this website.

Basis of all processing are the terms of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and/or the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).

In the following text we use

• “we” / “us” for the people managing the website or in GDPR speak: the controller
• “you” for the users accessing the website or in GDPR speak: the data subject

We're not doing anything different than any other website on the planet, but it's only fair we explain it to you.

Some General Terms used in this document.

The web server hosting our site will log each page access. This log will also contain some personal data:

• your IP address
• the referrer (where you came from)
• your browser identification

This information is necessary for legal reasons and to analyze and prevent abuse. This allows us to keep users away who try to crash our server or to have necessary evidence in case of illegal or criminal activity.

Our server logs are automatically groomed and summarized. We will only keep log files longer when they are needed as evidence during an investigation.

We do not sell your information.

When you edit a page in the wiki, we log the following personal data

• username
• IP address

This allows us to easily block users who vandalize the wiki. And your username allows us to credit you according to the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0) we use on this wiki.

When you opt to register for an account in the Wiki, you need to provide the following minimal data:

• username
• email address
• password

All other data is optional.

Your user account data is not shared. You can see and update that personal information in your account profile once you login.

When you want to delete your account, use our Contact Us page to request an account deletion.

We collect different types of information depending on how you interact with us:

• Information you provide directly: When you subscribe to our newsletter, contact us, or make a purchase, we may collect your name, email address, and any other information you choose to provide.
• Information collected automatically: When you visit the WESTbase Main Website and/or The WESTbase Wiki, we collect basic technical information such as your IP address, browser type, operating system, and pages visited. The Main Website and the Wiki itself primarily uses only essential/functional cookies necessary for the site to operate.
• Server Logs and Hosting Provider: Our websites are hosted by Bluehost. Like most websites, our hosting provider automatically collects and stores certain technical information in server logs. This may include your IP address, browser type, operating system, referring website, pages visited, and timestamps. This information is used for security, troubleshooting, and analyzing overall website traffic and performance. We do not use this data to personally identify individual visitors unless necessary to investigate security issues or comply with legal requirements.
• Information from podcast listening: When you listen to or download episodes of the Get On With The Story! podcast, our hosting provider (Podbean) may collect information such as your IP address, device type, and listening behavior.
• Affiliate links: When you click on affiliate links (including text links and images we control), you will be directed to third-party websites (such as Amazon). We do not control the privacy practices of these third-party sites.
• Newsletter (Substack): If you subscribe to our newsletter on Substack, Substack collects information according to its own privacy policy. We receive basic subscriber information to manage our newsletter.
• Purchases: When you purchase products through Gumroad, Gumroad processes the transaction and shares limited information with us so we can deliver your digital products.
